Murgo to Saser Brangsa
The day dawned with a clear blue sky and there was no snow at night and we immediately set off from Murgo for the Saser la base. We reached Chongtash without any problem and this time it was a bit green due to the snow for the past few days. A small stop at Chongtash and we moved on our way to the Chongtash nala. The lake was there and this time the surrounding snow covered peaks were reflecting in the still water. It was a site difficult to miss from photography point of view. Shortly thereafter we reached the cliff which was to be climbed down, for which again the fixed rope came in very handy. We were across the Chongtash nala without any problem as the water level was quite less. We were in a hurry to reach the Shyok river since it was to be crossed today if we did not want to camp at Tut-yailak across the pass.
Without stopping we made a dash for the river, but the water which was seeming to be very less from the high ground started to look dangerous and the talk of crossing the river from the hanging bridge started. However, the bridge was far and so we were reluctant to move to the bridge. So it was decided to cross the river by walk and the team got ready for the crossing. All the extra clothing was removed and put on the shoulders and then the first step was taken in and immediately taken out. The water was very cold and the feet froze immediately. Well, since it had been decided to make the crossing, we again moved in and slowly started to move across the river. The water was comparatively still low though the speed was good enough to wash away a lone man. Holding each other with the water up to the thighs we crossed the river and thanked our stars for having successfully crossed the river without and mishap. On the other shore we dried our self and moved up the slope towards the Saser Brangsa.
Now we were to wait for the horses to arrive. It was alright initially but soon the wind started and it became cold. Our fear of the water rise in the river as the time passed also started to increase. What will happen if the horses were not able to cross the river. Well the anxious wait was over after two hours, when the horse train was sited in the Chongtash nala gorge. But still the crossing of the river remained. Finally the horses crossed the river and so we decided to move up the slope to the next camping place. As the last man was leaving the Saser Brangsa the horses reached the place and told that they would not move beyond that place that day. Well, we did not have any choice but to retrace our steps to Saser Brangsa. The camp was established without any further wait as it was already late and the team had become cold waiting for the horses. The wind was now flowing and it was cold. The kitchen started to function and was the only hot place. Before it became dark the dinner was finished and we slept off.
